One and Only/La Pamilla
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to dine where the stars like Oprah, John Travolta, and Jennifer Aniston have dined. Agua is the exclusive restaurant of this property in which Debbie and myself had the pleasure of dining. This was such a high end establishment that I felt that tourist photo snapping behavior would be frowned upon so you will have to rely on my descriptions and your minds eye to endulge in this marvelous adventure….As we rolled up to the scrolled wrought iron main gate of the property, the desert melted away into a lush tropical landsaped roadway surrounded by lit torch bowls on each side. When we arrived at the main reception area we were greeted by several attendees eager to assist us. The mission style veranda was decorated with large Talaverde styled pottery, tall candle filled vases, and Mission style furniture. A sweet scent wafted through the air from the candle holders. We were immediately carted up to the restaurant and its reception area. The recepetion area and bar were warmly lit by candles, torch bowls, and dimly lit Mexican light sculptures made of glass and copper in a variety of shapes and sizes. The base of the bar was a mosaic of cobalt blue, pale yellow, orange, and crimson red stained glass gently back lit from behind. These themes carried themselves into the main dining area and were covered by a thatched roof with large timbers. At the bar we were warmly greeted and served along with our drinks some aged imported parmasean cheese and calamatta olives….all served on hand stiched linen knapkins, no paper here! We were later escorted to the dining area which maintained the warm glow of torches, glass encased cylindrical candles, and an ampitheatre style fire place. The tables were spaced so as to privide privacy for those intimate dinner conversations…very discrete. The outdoor veranda was partially covered by thatch roof and surrounded by panels of crystal clear glass. The floors were of an intricate weave of terrazo like tiles in earth tones, slate greys and white with a glaze. The wait staff was polite, efficient, and totally unobtrusive. The menu selections were out of this world. We started off with a goat cheese confiet and tempura battered calamari that just melted in your mouth. A fantastic bread selection was brought over as well along with roasted peppers and hummus. For dinner we opted for the baked parrot fish and the traditional paella. Both were exquisite! Most impressive ,however, was the portions. Each was sized so that one would get all the flavor and satisfaction from each individual course through to desert and not be over satiated. This restaurant was off the charts in all areas bar none: ambience, service, and quisine. To top it off they gave a gift bag to Debbie filled with La Pamilla goodies! An experience of a life time for plain old folks like us. WOW!
