Scion Anthropology

Filed under: General News — scionblog @ 9:28 am

Scionpro has been contacted by a Brazilian anthropologist, Daniel Gasparetti, who is fascinated with the Scion movement in the U.S.. He is amazed at the level of achievement and popularity that the Scion brand has achieved in just three years compared to other companies that have not been able to achieve this level in twenty years. He has sent me a few questions to respond to to help in his research. Please help Daniel by filling the blog with your opinions, ideas, and emotions about this topic.

1. Why do you have such an interest in a new brand such as Scion? What caught your attention? Are Scion cars better to work on than most other cars?

2- What do you think most attracts people to Scion? Is it the design, is it the possibilities of personalization, is it the brand itself and its communication/community?

3- How would you describe a typical Scion lover? Is there such a thing?

4- What nice things do you think Scion already does for consumers and what things do you think they could improve on?

5- How often do Scion club members meet? Because it seems to me it’s very often!

  1. FrankenScion Says:

1a) The community that is involved with it. 1b) The Uniquness of the xB. 1c) Yes
    2) I would have to say to all of the above.
    3) That is one of the things that makes the Scion community so great. There is not a “typical Scion owner”.
4a) They give back to the community often with free car shows and customer appreciation events. 4b) Just keep listening to the enthusiast and take what they say to heart.
    5) My local chapter gets together weekly. We require monthly meets for our club, Scikotics.

  2. EVILDAVE Says:

    1) It’s Toyota and they biuld a great car..
1b)It looks like nothing else on the market.
    1c) Yes and more fun.

2)I also would have to say (all of the above)

3)Every Scion owner is different. Some like to go for the speed look some like the VIP
style and some like me go for thier own original style.

4)Scion Corp works with the clubs to put on shows ,meets , parties and they pay for it
showing that they take care of thier customrs and we are good friends with them.

5)As often as possible! for BBQ’s, meetings and just to hang out.

  3. krdshrk Says:

    1) At first it was the thought of buying a nice looking car that was backed by Toyota quality.
Then, I saw how much stuff there was that you could do with the cars. With so many different things straight out of the factory
and dealership, you could create a car that is pretty unique. I love that. The way they make these cars, it’s so easy to up and
change something that you’d never originally think of. It’s a lot easier to mod Scions than most other cars today.

    2) There are a LOT of things that attract people to Scions. First off - they’re inexpensive. You can get a great car with tons
of standard features for a GREAT price. The next thing is the community. There are tons of Scion clubs and forums that you can join
up with and be a part of. From stock rides to the extremely wildly modded ones, they’re all welcome. Scion also holds events like
car shows, the Drive tour (where you could test drive a car), and other things! The personalization aspect is relatively minor when
you take all these other things into consideration. I always say it like this: If you saw a Scion on the side of the road, would
you stop and help them? I would. Can you say that about Honda owners? How about Subaru or VW owners? Hyundai? Hah.

    3) A typical Scion owner loves their car. That’s the only thing typical about it. There’s such a wild age range of owners that
there is nothing “typical” about us!

    4) The thing that Scion does the best is Customer Relations and Marketing. With all of the Scion car shows, clubs, contests, events, etc,
they show that they truly care for the community.

    5) Different clubs and chapters meet at different times. It’s gotten to the point that I’ve been going to at least 1 meet or show per week!

  4. subzero159 Says:

    1. a):The whole concept of personalization, coming and going as you want, interesting styling, having places to meet when most places will not let clubs hang-out. b):The whole process and the uniqueness of the cars. c):Yes, these cars have a great following in the aftermarket world.

    2. All the above. Scion owners reasons for being attracted to a Scion has as many reasons as there are combinations of possibilities of customizing the cars.

    3. Scion owners are very passionate about the cars and their life no matter if they are young or old.

    4. By giving back to the owners with shows, events, and being there to listen to the owners. This gives the owners a chance to be part of a new way to evolve a brand and make it their own.

    5. As often as the clubs want to meet, but also you will see scion owners hanging out together every week, day sometimes.

  5. soros151 Says:

    1. The fresh smell of a new car can only be topped by the fresh smell of a new car of a new brand. Also the quality of it’s Father company, TOYOTA. I don’t think there is a best car to work on, cause all of them are as complex as many others, and everyday they are getting more complex. I think that is the reason I’m so interested in this car. I see it as a challenge.

2- What attracts the people the most is the high level of personalization that can be done on this cars and the out of the box ideas that this can bring. The community is the biggest aspect about this car, I never imagined the huge group of people that could share my same interest.

3- A typical Scion lover is the person who everytime sees another scion on the road, he just sticks his head further out to see that car, even if he has seen it thousands of times.

4- Scion already gave us amazing models, but I know, I just know there is space for more improvement. Maybe instead of doing a tuner edition tC, why not actually making a huge poll about what the Scion community wants to see next.

5- “How often do Scion club members meet? Because it seems to me it’s very often!”
I meet with the Scion Evolution Club, EVERY WEEK, and if I could do it twice a week, I would defenitly do it too. Also I have some close friends with Scions and we tend to talk a lot about the car themselves and our personalization dreams. :P

    1. Why do you have such an interest in a new brand such as Scion? What caught your
attention? Are Scion cars better to work on than most other cars?
Scion is unique. They have a lot more customization options compared to any other car
on the market. They allow you to express yourself through your vehicle. They are easy to
work on and make your own.

2- What do you think most attracts people to Scion? Is it the design, is it the
possibilities of personalization, is it the brand itself and its communication/community?
I think people are are attracted to the design and customization possibilities with
the Scion. People like to be able to show their own style in their vehicle. The community
is a lot of fun and people come together to share similar interests.

3- How would you describe a typical Scion lover? Is there such a thing?
There is no typical Scion lover…everyone loves their Scion in a different way. The
true Scion enthusiasts show how much they love their Scion by the work they put into the
vehicle and how much it expresses their life or personality.

4- What nice things do you think Scion already does for consumers and what things do you
    think they could improve on?
Scion does everything for their community. They throw shows, they give away cool Scion
gear, they do what ever they can to get the word out there. There isn’t much that they
    could do better.

5- How often do Scion club members meet? Because it seems to me it’s very often!
Our clubs in the Houston area meet weekly…just to hang out, and we meet monthly for
    our large group meetings.

  8. UmLunchbox Says:

    1. The brand caught my eye. The design was so far out there that I felt it was a perfect match to my lifestyle and personality. It’s not that these cars are better than any other for customization, they just seem to lend themselves to it.

2.Design I’m sure will ring in as #1. A close second would be the community created around them. The community created by owners and supported by corporate.

3.We are friendly, to a fault. If allowed I’m sure we would speak about our vehicles at every traffic light. We tend to seek out others, especially other Scion owners. And we love to show off our abilities and accomplishments when it comes to these vehicles, there is a magnetism that draws all of us owners together.

4.There events are awesome, in order to improve overall they need to work harder in changing their dealers attitudes. If they were a bit more accomodating, they would be unstoppable.

5.Well as president of a Scikotics chapter in Ft. Lauderdale, we meet weekly officially and hang out about once a week for dinner, movies, etc … We are more than a club, we’ve become friends.

1.Toyato has always been making great engines! So choosing the Scion wasn’t that hard. The unique box shape has so many applications you can do to the box! What really got me into the box was the room it provided. Myself I’m 6′5 310# chinese guy and I fit into the box very comfortably. Working on the Scion is actually much easier to work on most cars! It’s like a lego box, you just need to unscrew a few items or just pull apart and whamo your done!!
2.When I personally saw the Scion for the first time, I thgought it was a bread box on wheels, but you just got eventually love them. I think the design shouldn’t change and leave it as the same. People are amazed to see when such a big guy get’s out of such a small box. Plus I was reading a decal article on the Scion xb on how it was a dream to advertiser’s for doing whole body wraps!! Also Havine large vinyl decals doesn’t hurt also. NorCal Scikotics!! It attracts plenty of attention!!
3.Each owner has their own persona, why not their xa, xb, and or tc’s! When something is done to their car you can tell the owners by their cars and their cars by the owners!
4.Scion has been doing a job helping local car clubs with meets! If you think of it on a marketing stand point it’s free advertisement for the company since where promoting our cars so much. So I guess it’s help recent, old, new owners knowing they have the support needed.
5.Our car club meets a minimum of three times a week. One in Concord for the north and northeast bay thursday nights, one at San Jose scion on friday nights, and finally on Saturday Nights in Hayward at my place in Hayward! Hayward is the most centrally located city in the Bay Area! This will give everyone one equal distance to travel! We even have a Upper norhtbay and central valley meets upcoming being planned as we speak! Our group is so big we need to meet at different spots in the bay area, just so that everybody is taken care of. Members count for the NorCal Scikotics anything between 60-70 people as of now and were still growing!! At least a few moe memebers a month!! Pizza on thursday meets, Tuning and chilling on Friday Meets, and Saturday Meets Qing and making smores!!

    1. The thing that caught my eye, was the shape of the boxy looking I was curious about it from the beginning , once I seen a box fixed up with all this kool stuff, I was like I need to get that one. Surely, a Xb it was, with over a year of ownership I have done lots of modifications, Scion it can be consider to be one of the vehicle you can customize as far as you want , however you want it, you wont run out of ideas always something new to do. Another thing was the engine I know that Toyota has been around my family and never had problems, so it was an easy answer….

    2. To me it will be all of the above, from shape, personalization, and the community itself, you can make this one represent yourself, from colors, designs, attitude, etc.

    3. A typical scion owner to me it will have to be, someone that has something always in mind, what’s next, just one question regarding the vehicle he will already have all the answers to it , can’t stop talking about his own ride, and making others even cross to the scion community LOL
    (the darkside)

    4. Scion itself has done lots of work to have scion the way it is, putting shows together, making this whole scion community a whole family, everyone’s interest which would be the cars, I have attend few scion sponsors shows and they always great, from free at charge events, free food, free giveaways, etc… and now with cash prizes, WOW can’t ask for better, its getting better and better, as far as improvement, I think they have everything already, if they would add more to it, it will not be as fun as it is now, but show wise I think the cash awards it’s the best thing they can start doing now on…….

    5. Here in Houston Texas we have develop more than just a hangout every week, we have become more close than that, we used to have meets/hangouts every Thursday of the week, for over a year, it would be a routine to keep in touch but, we develop something more than that, now from Thursday, Friday , sat, and Sundays,,, LOL which we always have something to do, Thursday hangout, Friday club nights, sat someone’s house to chill with friends and family, and of course Sundays that particular day we use it to work on the cars, from small installs to big custom installs,
I’m glad we are the way we are,,,
    SCIKOTICS Houston chapter…
